Long time, no see, Mizz Information readers! Another year, another bout of blog burnout…what else is new, right? I wrote that post in 2011 and this one just a few months ago, and, I’d imagine, if I’m still blogging a year or five years from now, I’ll continue to grapple with blogging just as others who blog are doing and have always done.
For me, the reason I’ve been able to keep plugging along with Mizz Information for so long (February marks the seven year anniversary of this lil’ slice of the blogosphere) is because of my not-so-endearing capacity to focus on a particular topic for a really, really long time (ask my mom–“pesty” is what she used to call it, and now that I have my own pesty daughter who takes after me, I have to acknowledge that it’s a fitting description). For the better part of these seven years I’ve focused on social media and community management because….well, who knows why. Long story short–I pretty much blogged my way into a career, and now that the convincing about social media and community management is kind of done, I’m left grasping at straws for something new to be obsessed with. I feel like I spent basically five years blogging and speaking and preaching about why social media was important and needed to be part of an overall communications strategy….and now it pretty much is. So now what?
Another part of blogging is kind of having a goal–why else would you spend time and effort that otherwise could be spent with family and friends writing for strangers and designing and managing a website? My goal, if you read my very first post, was to try to develop a writing portfolio and score some freelance writing gigs. Seven years and a reasonably successful freelance side-business later, I can definitely say I succeeded. Now, my days are spent writing and I only feel a tiny bit like an impostor as I sit sit among real journalists from big-name publications in press briefings, or type up articles that result from interviews with C-level tech execs.
Anyway….that’s my Sunday blog musing. Where has your blog taken you? Or, if you’re just starting, what’s your goal?
