Congratulations, former Facebook promotions rule-breakers–it’s now officially ok to break those rules. Actually, you won’t even have to–Facebook has changed those pesky Promotions Guidelines and made it easier to run and administer contests. Gone are the third party app requirements and restrictions on using the like or comment features as entry mechanisms–businesses can now run promotions either in an app or on their page’s Timeline (but not a personal timeline). Additionally they can:
- Collect entries by having users post on the Page or comment/like a Page post
- Collect entries by having users message the Page
- Utilize likes as a voting mechanism
Here are the new Promotions Guidelines. Facebook says they made these changes to enable more businesses to use Facebook to launch promotions, which makes sense because that’s more traffic to Facebook, less revenue to third party promotion app developers, and more ad revenue when businesses then have to pay to promote all those contests. Makes sense. Guess I’ll finally be forced to get over my frustration with rule-flouting businesses ๐
